Application of Arachis hypogea shell powder in decolorizing AO 52 and BB 9 from Aqueous system in Batch Mode

Abstract


In the present study Arachis hypogea shell powder was applied for the adsorption of AO 52 and BB 9 from synthetic dye solutions in a batch mode. The effect of pH, adsorbent dose, dye initial concentration and temperature was studied. Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models were applied to study the batch equilibrium data and best fitting was observed with Langmuir isotherm model with correlation coefficient >0.98 for both AO 52 and BB 9 dyes. The fitness of the adsorption data into Langmuir isotherm confirmed the monolayer adsorption. The removal of both of the dyes was greater than 90% at low concentration, while the same decreases with an increase in the concentration.  Thermodynamic studies confirmed that process was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. The sorption capacity of the Arachis hypogea shell powder was compared to those of the other available adsorbents and it was seen that Arachis hypogea shell powder had better adsorption capacity.
